Bringing Baby Bela home!
October 28, 2010….life as we know it is about to change. See – I remember having a puppy when I was little. Yeh, she was all cute and fun and such a great companion for a small child, but that basset hound HOWLED……….and howled…….and howled. I remember Mom walking around like a zombie because the dog was up all night. I remember kissing her good night in her “box.” I remember thinking it was MEAN to put a dog in a cardboard box. My dad is tough and all, but I sure don’t remember “kennel training” that dog. I remember once Suzie was big enough to not squeeze under the fence, she had full run of the backyard.
Why am I writing about this? Well……Baby Bela (sounds like Bella – is short for Cabela – the hunting store) arrives this afternoon. We are driving out to Katy to get her. Last time we saw her she was maybe 4.5 pounds. When I called the kennel owner – BarrKennels in Katy, Texas – Pam said that Bela probably 12-15 pounds. YIKES! Chase picked Bela, beautiful 3 1/2 week old black lab, out as his 16th birthday gift. She’s going to be “his” hunting dog.
Realistically this dog is going to be mine. Just like the 16 year old yellow lab, Caroline, we currently have. Like the cat, Mufasa – who thinks he’s a dog, that we inherited from friends that moved to Scotland. Like the Chinese Water Dragon, Irwin, upstairs in this 16 year old’s room that I talk to and mist lovingly every morning. And Moe & Joe, the fire-bellied toads……..they get a few crickets when I remember to tell Grant to feed them. I don’t even think the geckos have been named yet, but they are kind of cute – I have to admit. AND THEY MAKE NO NOISE. I’m forgetting someone………oh yeh. Tinkerbell & Peter Pan – Alex’s parakeets that have been renamed TinkerBo and Polly Pan as she is pretty sure that we had the sexes wrong on them thus the renaming. I think that’s all of the Remy Zoo. I think. I’m sure someone will correct me
We drive out to Katy this afternoon after the kids get home from school. Alex misses this grand adventure because of basketball tryouts. One less kid – I’ll be able to better pay attention to the kennel owners as they tell me how my life is about to turn upside down. Just as Google turned the organic search results upside down today………..that’s another story. I expect this to be like having a baby……….except my babies were good sleepers and were NOT criers. As my friends can vouch for me – I DON’T DO CRYING AND WHINING.
While thinking back upon Suzie being a puppy, I didn’t worry about whether or not she tore up Mom’s flower beds and chewed on Dad’s lawn equipment……well, because I was a kid. I tossed a Facebook post out there about “suggestions for bringing a lab puppy home.” You know, a generic status update, to instigate some conversation amongst friends. One of my long, lost friends suggested Tabasco on the legs of my furniture “that I treasure.” Oh boy………….I’m in trouble. A bit worried about my favorite LEATHER couch, kitchen table, and many other heirlooms.
Wish us luck. It’ll be a ride for sure…………wish Caroline, the old, slow moving, 16 year old lab with “anxiety” issues luck too. She’s going to need it! HA! Pictures tomorrow!
Happy New Year!
I think I’m almost caught up with putting away Christmas and welcoming the new year! We had a VERY busy holiday break. My husband had knee surgery, 2 out of 3 kids got sick BEFORE Christmas, and we went to 2 swim meets – JUST WHILE THE KIDS WERE OUT OF SCHOOL.
I managed to get sick right before Christmas and visited a medical clinic in Houston (a family doctor). I have doctors that I’ve been seeing forever, however, this was a Sunday and couldn’t hear a thing. I was quiet pleased with the service. And very recently I received the bill. They direct billed my insurance for $55. I don’t remember the last time that I was billed under $80 for medical services. WOW – impressive! Glad that I have Doctors Clinic of Houston as a client. I probably never would have visited a medical clinic of “strange doctors” if I didn’t know so much about the company.
As I’ve mentioned before, my brain doesn’t shut down sometimes. I woke up Christmas morning and jumped on the computer to see what was happened in the world, and I saw that one of the Houston scrap metal yards had burned to the ground. And I asked myself, what at a scrap metal yard burns? Non-ferrous goods shouldn’t burn, should it? Again, wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t have a scrap metal client.
A site that I’ve just finished is a site for the Larry C Jones Insurance Agency. He has offices in 2 locations – one in Houston and one in Laredo. Quite a drive, huh? I never really realized how many different products that insurance agencies sell. Everything from auto insurance, homeowners insurance, umbrella and liability policies, commercial property insurance, business or directors insurance – even special event insurance. WOW – that’s a ton. We have all of our insurance in one place and it makes life so incredibly easy when you need to make payments, or switch coverage. You need to get to know your agents……….
Swimming is still the main part of our lives outside of work and family. Well, it’s the family that’s doing the swimming. More meets this weekend. Wahoo. Note the sarcasm????
Gotta run……off to run carpools and to try to finish work!
Losing Things?
Don’t you hate mailing that box in all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and get home only to realize you forgot to put something in the box? Just had to send an email to my sister in law stating that I left part of my nephew’s Christmas present in the “to wrap” pile……….stinks. He’s only 3 so he won’t know the difference, but it makes me mad because I bought it early enough (like 2 weeks ago). I was actually organized on that note – ha! Wish I managed a website someone that could handle things like this. Like a personal shopper or something of the sorts.
Weather’s great – boys out front playing football. It’s the BEST noise in the world. Not football (that’s awfully good), just the kids’ non-stressed laughter! Gotta run – just wanted to stop for a moment.
What Matters Now
If you don’t do anything but read this today…….you’ll be doing good! AND get some great ideas on LIFE!
Houston Urgent Care Clinic
Big weekend here……..swim meet (shocking huh?), Dallas Cowboy football game and one sick kid. At least it is only one of three, right? I was working in the meet management room on the computers, when one of our own coaches walked in with an “ailment.” She shared what the symptoms were and all the moms in the room in unison said “GET TO A DOCTOR.” Well, quite naturally this conversation was taking place on a Sunday morning and this coach is really young – therefore insurance is lacking a bit. She totally had it though – it seems some doctors have no respect for your time, emergency room fees are WAY TOO expensive, and really, she hasn’t been here long enough to develop a relationship with a doctor yet. And what was my advice? Go to an Houston urgent care clinic. Have you ever been to one?
Houston urgent care clinics are popping up on every corner. Most of these clinics have GREAT doctors and tons to offer you including Houston family doctors through a family practice, well woman exams, even acne treatment for Houston. It’s absolutely amazing.
Doctors Clinic in Houston (another client of mine). They have a Houston Chiropractic offering for those in need as well as offering Houston flu shots. Walk ins are accepted and you can even schedule EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT online. This is why I sent our coach to this Houston Urgent Care Clinic. They accept major insurances, have great payment plans (should you go in for something “invovled”), and have low costs (all on line) and you don’t have to have a referral.
Waiting times are good to great and their are multiple doctors on staff at each of the six Houston Urgent Care Clinics. These are great for “urgent” to mild emergency situations, immunizations, flu shots – if you need it, they probably offer it. Check it out – this Urgent Care Clinic in Houston (well, all 6 of them) are little gems in hiding!!!!
And our coach – she’s good now!
Industrial Explosions
Oh my – listening to the news on Channel 2 in Houston right now. This latest Industrial Explosion has occurred at the American Acrylics plant in Baytown, TX on Port Road and Hwy 146. It evidently rocked the entire area – people in Clear Lake are calling in right now. That must have been some blast. The smoke is DARK BLACK and thick. Clear Creek ISD has ordered schools to shelter in place (sounds like the hurricane again) and that includes White, Bay, Stewart, Robinson, and Mossman elementaries. Listening again……..the list must include 10-12 elementaries now. People – be careful. Seabrook residents have been asked to stay indoors until more information can be disseminated.
Hopefully no one is hurt in this industrial explosion. I have to check my notes but I think Valero just had an industrial accident this week, maybe last. No one needs this right now. It’s supposed to be a festive time of the year………..news is slow to come out. More information later.
The thing that scares me is that these plants are so close together – how hard is it for fire to move from one to another – anyone?
Valero – Texas City
Living in a big city definitely has it’s conveniences – but it also has it’s major drawbacks. I always tell my husband that I want to live in the middle of no where – where the kids can play and me not have to worry about their well being pollution/traffic/kidnapping wise. The traffic here in my neighborhood is not bad, but we have a couple of neighbors that rip through here like THEIR kids don’t play on the streets and in the front yard.
Something I DON’T have to worry about is industrial explosions or industrial accidents causing me to evacuate or worry about my kids breathing the air around us. The poor people that live in Texas City constantly have to be aware of what is around them. Most of us don’t have to worry about that………right?
Friday, December 4, 2009, I was sitting in the Natatorium in College Station for Senior Gulf Champs and the people living in and around the Valero Industrial Plant in Texas City had to worry about a blast that killed one man and seriously injured two others at last count. Prayers are definitely with the families, especially with the family of the deceased!!! This is a situation that is unavoidable no matter how hard these industrial facilities try to be safe, with humans involved – there are going to be industrial accidents. It’s just a fact of life.
Even though the site has been secured and Valero is telling Texas City residents that there was no cause for concern and the incident is still under “investigation.” How trusting are we that we believe them? Do we have a choice? What exactly was released into the air because of this industrial explosion??? The government groups the industrial accidents into four groups or “levels.” This was a level one industrial explosion – even though it was bad enough to kill someone, it was supposedly not to be of concern to anyone else….? WHAAAAT?
Valero is North America’s largest independent petroleum refiner and marketer……..can they be trusted?
Last Minute Appeal????
Seems I’ve only been writing about rain and swimming lately. So here’s something new. Normally, first thing I do when I get to work is peruse the news across the nation to see if something sparks my interest for blogging. Well – this sure did – on Law.com:
“In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal Wednesday morning to hear the last-minute appeal of a Tennessee death row inmate, two justices clashed — one with some bite — over whether an execution after a lengthy delay is cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment.”
Now, it may just me being too hard today because I have a head cold and not much oxygen is getting through to my brain, but come on…….two judges clashing over cruel and unusual punishment of a death-row inmate? Now, I’m not really sure what makes me more angry – the fact that they are spending my tax dollars “clashing” over how someone was treated on death row OR the fact that they are NOT addressing that the person ON DEATH ROW did something obviously TERRIBLE or they wouldn’t be where they are.
Luckily in my life I haven’t had to deal with attorneys – other than my best friend who is one, but she’s harmless:-). I have had the pleasure and have gotten to know some attorneys through my job – via their websites and questions/interviews that I have to conduct to get correct information posted on their sites. Lester Van Slyke, Fort Bend County Attorney is one that is pretty cool – should one ever NEED an attorney. He specializes in Fort Bend Divorce, DWIs and Criminal Law. Fort Bend is growing so fast….more and more “big city” things seem to be happening. More crime. More divorces. More custody battles. Mr. Van Slyke can legally handle all of these things.
He’s a good old fashioned, man – officing in the Richmond/Rosenberg area – very close to the court house and Sandy McGee’s. With movers and shakers moving to the Fort Bend area (including Sugar Land, Richmond, and Rosenberg), seems there are quite a few high-profile divorces going on and Mr. Van Slyke is right there in the middle of it with all the big whig city attorneys.
If I had to hire a dwi, divorce or criminal attorney in Fort Bend County, I’d want a seasoned attorney, with old fashioned standards, and that is in touch with current changes in laws and technology. It’s a fast world, I would want things handled as fast and as thoroughly as possible. I would feel totally at ease using Mr. Van Slyke. Good guy! Check out his website at www.vanslyke-law.com.
Living Close to the Tracks!
Living in certain parts of Houston can be dangerous in my book. Just today, a Union Pacific train had 29 cars out of 116 derail in Southwest Houston. What does derail mean? A Houston Railroad Accident. JUMPED THE TRACKS! BLOCKED TRAFFIC. The bad part is that 16 of these 29 cars carried petroleum coke, 4 cars carried ammonium nitrate, 2 carried aluminized pellets and one carried polyethelene pellets and another carried good old fashioned cars. Luckily the remaining 5 were EMPTY!
What’s bad about this? Why do I have a problem? Ammonium nitrate is highly explosive when heated up. Train derailment…..heat from accident. BOOM! Definitely possibility. Ammonium Nitrate is the “fertilizer” compound that was used in the Oklahoma City bombing.
Trains carry things like this all the time. We never even know about it unless there is an accident. And today, there was a very dangerous accident. It is unclear at this time what caused the derailment and it was also not clear if there were any injuries. It happened during rush hour – something will pop up.
If you or someone you know was involved in this accident or another accident like this, call Russell Burwell or James Nebout at Burwell Nebout Trial Lawyers. They are great, normal guys that practice in Houston and Texas City. I to Texas City a few weeks ago to visit their office and get some information for a new website that I”m building. The are FELA attorneys. FELA stands for Federal Employers’ Liability Act – the FELA Act protects those working on trains, tracks, or in the yards as well as those innocent bystanders that are involved in train accidents. Call them - they’ll help you understand your rights under the FELA Law.
Customized Apparel – close to home!
For starters – I AM NOT GETTING PAID TO WRITE THIS – now that that has been said…..
How many times have you wanted a nice golf shirt or an Under Armour shirt with your company’s name on it, name of a reunion, sons’ baseball team’s name, ANYTHING personalized? There is a company in Houston that specializes in customized apparel – either items you buy through them, or items you take into the store – and get them done FAST.
Not that I’m slamming other embroidery companies, or customization companies, but these guys are nice, efficient, and affordable. OK – time for me to fess up here. I work WITH them, AROUND them, eat lunch with them. It is Echo Apparel Solutions – they office in the same building with Bizopia and List & Found (the company I work for ).
Echo Apparel Solutions does all of Conn’s employee shirts. I just walked through the warehouse here, and there were HUNDREDS of White shirts in the embroidery room just waiting to be sent out. Echo can do custom embroidery on dust about anything – and 10 at a time. It’s amazing to watch.
A few months ago, Echo Apparrel Solutions got this new machine that can screenprint logos/words/pictures – whatever your need – on the Under Armour or Dry-Fit type shirts. My husband had 27 little shirts made up for Grant’s football team – peewee football – the polyester, type Under Armour feeling shirts (off brand). The kids LOVE them. They wear them under their pads……….feels good, says Grant.
Echo Apparel Solutions can help you design a shirt and then can customize it any way you’d like – including screenprinting, embroidery, digital sublimation, heat applied graphics and imprintables. They have another new machine, a digital sublimation printer – that sets the ink INTO the fabric. No crunchy, stiff iron-on feeling things………VERY COOL!
That’s just my personal plug for my friends……..they do great work. And yes, I’ve paid them to do things before. Getting ready to embroidery my kids’ swim parkas!
It’s Tuesday!
Well, it’s Tuesday…………recovered from a weekend of games, kids-activities, and a bar mitzvah. WHEW – what a weekend……Tuesday is the BAD carpool day. Everyone has to be somewhere at way too close of times. It’s exhausting.
Today’s work is going well – rank checking clients, looks good. I was able to work some issues out – it’s really frustrating though. Google has all these rules and regulations that the GOOD GUYS follow link-building wise. I follow them – everyone around here follows them, but I STILL have to spend 20 minutes deleting 214 SPAMMY “responses” and “fake” comments and links in languages that I will NOT mention (and I’m not talking bad words – I’m talking the languages that are taking over the world). It really pisses me off.
Here I am, working my tail off in my little Houston SEO world, trying to get my clients like Home Remedy of Houston, a legitimate Houston Home Remodeling company, to be FOUND on the internet. I see their work, I communicate with their staff, and I post a review on their work (which is REALLY good by the way)……….THEN I have to sit and kill all the FREAKS out there posting goodness knows what in a language that I can’t even speak. Why can’t these people do something GOOD with their time – like figuring out, via the internet (since that is what they seem to be good at), how to stop all these wars – or people going hungry – drunk driving accidents. I know this is random post, but I’m in a mood today……..
November – the Whirlwind Month
WOW – November is flying. Seriously, the fall has flown. Christmas is on it’s way – I can’t believe it. All 5 family member’s birthdays are in October and November. The word whirlwind really doesn’t get it – just doesn’t touch it.
One is 15………starting to learn to drive. Need I say more on that topic? One is a new “teen”…….hormones – that’s all I can say there. And the baby……..well, youth football is getting better. I will leave this topic for a whole ‘nother post.
Working at Bizopia (we do website design and seo) is bringing it’s challenges. Like – getting it all done at work, trying not to bring it home, and still hanging on in the kid department. The carpools, the swimming, the house and the husband. Love it all, but WOW….it’s overwhelming at times. The FUN part of doing SEO for Bizopia is meeting all the clients that we do the websites for. That’s always been my thing – I’m a TOTAL people person, that’s why it blows so many peoples’ minds that I sit behind a computer all day. The latest interesting client to come through the doors was Wright Pawn (Houston Pawn Shop) – I didn’t know that Pawn Shops could so absolutely beautiful. I mean, this place looks like a Galleria Area, Houston jewelry store. They are on Westheimer by the big Evans Music Center…..still like Fort Bend Music Center for piano sales in Houston better!!! Plug…Plug…..they are friends!!!
Everyone is healthy – knock on wood – but we are so busy and the business is growing – I’m just afraid I’m missing things. Enough whining………adios – back to work!
So how’s your tv?
OK – we’ve been needing a new tv for a long time now. The one we have is a dinosaur – sales contest prize from the early 90′s. We actually bought furniture for the tv. Now it’s the age of flat screen tvs and no more armoires. Even Rachael Ray has done a show on “what to do with your old armoires.” Nice.
So – basically my choice is to buy a new television OR try to have the one we have fixed. The tv now is missing the power button and can only be turned on by the remote which is constantly being hidden by our youngest. It takes a while for the color to brighten up. My luck and this sucker is going to go out on the ONLY Saturday where A&M plays on national television (if that ever happens).
I’m sort of lucky. In the Houston SEO business that I’m in, I get to meet a lot of great businesses. You get to know the owners and movers and shakers of each business. One of these businesses in J&K Electronics. We’ve worked with the owner, Gus, on building a brand new website for Houston’s TV Repair expert. He’s the biggest. Nice guy. Using Bizopia’s Search Engine Optimization strategies, I have to pick the client’s brain on exactly what they offer as services. This is NOT always easy. But it was with J&K Electronics.
I learned about DLP, LCD & Plasma tvs………all of which can be repaired by my tv repair in Houston friends at J&K Electronics. I also learned that my tv has a really bad picture compared to these new televisions. Go figure. So my dilema is, do I give up my beautiful armoire and get a new flat screen from Gus, OR do I buy a flat screen to fit the armoire, OR do I ask J&K Electronics to fix my current set?
What to do?
Rain, Rain……..take a break!
We REALLY need the rain – HOWEVER, it either needs to RAIN & Lightning or stop between 3:00pm and 8:00pm. With competitive swimmers – they swim in the rain……unless it’s raining TOO HARD. That normally happens AFTER I’ve left for carpool. Go figure. They swim in the rain, snow, and “other”……..just not lightning. With these crazy pop ups we’ve had lately – rains here, but not there. We drive carpool anyway and then lurk around the pool “just in case.” Also, I hate driving carpool on days when it rains. The kids are slow and so is traffic.
As I’m a work, writing about these other businesses, some can be affected by rain, and some aren’t. The Law Offices of Brian Jensen CAN be affected because of auto accidents. Houston auto accidents are regular occurrences on rainy, stormy days. Mr. Jensen handles different types of personal injury cases that need an attorney for whatever the reason. As I’m sitting here right off Gessner and Beltway 8 South, I can HEAR the screaching tires. No sirens yet, so that’s good. Just remember Houston auto accident lawyer – Brian Jensen. Nice guy.
Back to real work, not fun work………..watching the weather is NOT going to help me, because it will change in about 2 minutes anyway!
Driving in Houston
No one expects to get into an auto accident when they get into their car and start up the engine. Getting into an auto accident is the last thing on a person’s mind when rushing to work, or going to the grocery store or taking the kids to soccer practice. The truth is, an auto accident can happen to anyone at any time, especially in Houston, one of the biggest and most traffic-congested cities in the country. No one is immune from the carelessness of other drivers.
A Houston auto accident lawyer is the first person you should call if you’re having problems receiving compensation to repair your vehicle or pay for medical bills.A Houston auto accident lawyer will be well-versed in the often complicated ins and outs of the legal system. Everyone knows the costs to repair a vehicle following an auto accident can be astronomical, not to mention the inconvenience of being without a vehicle for a week, two weeks, or even longer.
A Houston auto accident lawyer will fight to get you the fair compensation you’re entitled to. Drivers are required by law to have at least liability insurance for their vehicles, but many people unfortunately disregard the law and drive without insurance. If your vehicle is hit by a driver without insurance, the road to a fast and fair settlement will likely get bumpy. This is when a Houston auto accident lawyer can step in and fight for you to get the compensation you need and deserve and get you back on the road.
Construction Accidents
While almost any type of workplace can offer the unexpected risk of an accident, serious injury, or even death, construction workers face one of the highest risks for on-the-job-injuries. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, construction workers, like most American workers, are legally entitled to a workplace free of hazards and foreseeable accidents. Unfortunately, according to Federal Bureau of Labor statistics, workplace injury in construction still runs higher than the national average.
Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics also show that one of every five workplace fatalities is a construction worker. If you or a loved one have been injured in a construction accident in Houston, or a loved one has died due to a construction accident, contacting a Houston construction accident lawyer should be your first step on the road to recovery. Construction accidents vary, and can range from being hit by or caught in equipment, overexertion, falls, sprains and strains, cuts and punctures, fractures, bruises, and soreness. Construction accidents can often put an individual in a situation of being out of work, or unable to find new work, and this can lead to the inability to pay normal living expenses, as well as mounting medical bills.
A Houston construction accident lawyer is the best person to turn to in your time of need when a construction accident suddenly turns your world upside down.A Houston construction accident lawyer has the experience and know-how to seek out and fight for the compensation you deserve when a construction accident derails your ability to lead a full and productive life.

Sugar Land Family Day
Well …. it’s the last weekday of summer break and we decided to take the family to lunch and a movie. Have you seen “Aliens in the Attic?” Pretty cute. Before the movie, we visited Grimaldi’s Pizza up by the First Colony Mall in Sugar Land. Excellent. You get to pick your toppings and the hand make a specialty pizza – the pepperoni was awesome. Salads were huge. And they gave the kids dough to play with while we were waiting. You might want to rethink that decision…………
After lunch we ventured over to the AMC Theater on Sweetwater. Surprised that the place was not packed on tax-free Friday, we sat on down in the COLD theater. They only had one preview – that’s my family’s favorite part. But it was good one – The Lightning Thief. I totally appreciate Percy Jackson and the book’s ability to instill a shared love for mythology………ANYWAY – back to Aliens.
Pretty cute – some parts are hilarious. The part where Snuggles/Spark plays the music with Hannah was pretty cute. I think Fort Bend Music Center, Sugar Land & Houston’s one stop shopping experience for the music lover, should borrow that clip and make an ad out of it for their store. I can see it now – Sugar Land Guitar Lessons featuring Spark on the Electric Guitar. Or………..Houston Piano Sales featuring Spark on the Baby Grand Piano. I think it would be hilarious.
I can see Spark (the four armed, bug eyed alien) talking about piano sales in Houston, while playing an upright. Laying on top of the upright piano would of course be an acoustic or electric guitar. WHen he’s done delivering his two cents worth on buying a piano in Houston, he could go straight into Stairway to Heaven on the guitar. He could talk about his guitar instructor at Fort Bend Music Center and how COOL he is. “Sugar Land Guitar Lessons….na na na nah…….got get ‘em…..na na na nah” – need to buy a guitar in Sugar Land? Na na na nah!”…and so forth. It would be so cute!
Now if you are seriously looking for an instructor, FBMC really does provide Sugar Land Guitar Lesson INstructors………and they also sell pianos! Adios!
The Sandy Sugar Land Return
OK – we’ve been gone for too long. It’s absolutely amazing how much sand one family with three kids can transport home from the beach. The sand toys, the shells/sand dollars, THE SWIMSUITS, the towels……the big one – the bottom of the rolling cooler. Doesn’t matter how many times we rinsed it off at the beach – it just didn’t matter. That cooler will always have sand in and on it I think. We were lucky to see two friends that we had not seen in a while – old college friends. One commented on my Facebook status that it was illegal to removed sand from a Texas beach. Prosecutable by law. Really? Do you mean that those cute little crafts that my sister and did where we sprinkled shells and sand on a cardboard letter are ILLEGAL? Are you serious? Guess my friend was (even though he was giving me a hard time) as he is the ONLY prosecutor in his county which happens to be a beachfront county. Guess he knows a bit more about law that I do! Ha!
Upon return to real life at home – there’s the dog, the bills, and work. Upon checking in on my clients’ sites, I was reminded that SHOULD my beach attorney friend decide to prosecute, I would need a good attorney. Lester Van Slyke would be a great choice. Mr. Van Slyke specializes in Sugar Land Criminal Law as well as Sugar Land Family Law. I would assume that removing sand would be some type of felony or at the very least a misdemeanor – thus I would need an criminal lawyer and I live in Sugar Land. Hmmm – makes sense to me.
The Law Offices of Lester Van Slyke handle everything from petty theft to Sugar Land DWI (s) on the criminal side of the law. On the family law side of things, he handles Sugar Land Child Custody cases, Sugar Land Divorce(s), and any other type of family law. Keep Mr. Van Slyke in the back of your mind in the event you ever get caught removing sand from a Texas Beach. I’m sure he could help!

Who needs Fall Protection?
As I was floating down the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas, I noticed the Schlitterbahn’s latest major attraction……THE SWING. My seven year old was asking me, “Mommy, how do you know that you are not going to fall when you are swinging?” As a Houston SEO Strategist and copywriter, I’m quite familiar with Andy and the guys over at Flexible Lifelines (www.fall-arrest.com) . I just kept thinking, as I’m watching, “Man, I hope they have GREAT fall protection equipment.” I mean – these guys are climbing up poles with a little strap attached to them checking all the connection points. WOW! You have to trust what someone in a different job than you orders to protect you from falling. I would trust Flexible Lifelines to give me what I need. I mean, falling from 150 feet or more……you’re not exactly going to get up and walk off. You have to have the best of the best.
Until I was writing copy for Flexible Lifelines, I never really thought about fall protection for someone working on top of an airplane or railcar. I had thought about window washers, and people working on skyscrapers as needing assistance. But what about people that work on our water towers? Roller Coasters? Highway signs. Fall protection is needed in many many places.
This is job is pretty cool – it’s challenging me to think about some random things that I would otherwise not be exposed to.
Houston Auto Glass Repair
I had just spent a long, hot Saturday & Sunday cleaning out the garage – you know the weekend where you are all over the kids for not putting their bikes/tennis rackets/scooters/ripsticks, etc away where they are supposed to go. We had gotten all of the dog hair swept out and everything put away. It looked SO good. Monday rolled around and I need to grocery shop for the family. So I shut the computer down – no more Houston SEO services to complete, no sites to layout – so off I went.
Upon return, I was taking groceries out of the car and the next door neighbors yard guys were blowing the grass off the driveways and in to my garage. I rushed over to hit the garage door openers button and all I heard was shattering glass…..I had left the tailgate window open and the garage door had caught it. There was glass everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I panicked. It was Monday – CARPOOL DAY!
I jumped up and ran to the computer and searched Houston Auto Glass Repair and wha-la – Houston’s own Affordable Auto Glass popped up. Since I work for a Houston website design and SEO company, I know that if a company is on the front page in Google, they are doing something right. So I called.
Within 45 minutes – AAG sent a Houston mobile auto glass repair specialist to my houses. YES – to my house. So basically, from the time I broke the window to carpool time was 2.5 hours. I had a new rear tailgate window installed and it did NOT break the bank. I even had time to double vaccuum the car for safety reasons.
Kudos to Affordable Auto Glass – what a wonderful experience. OK – breaking the window STUNK – but having a company show up promptly, with no emergency fees, and expertly fix something was a complete pleasure! Give ‘em a call when you need them. They fix all “hiccups” with your auto glass!
Mom – Can I play the Guitar?
Have your kids bugged you about wanting to learn to play the guitar but you don’t want to plunk down the money? How’s that frog doing? Are YOU feeding the dog yet? We have frogs (that I feed) and a dog (that I play with)…..do you have the same thing going on?
I can hear my crew pleading their case for learning yet another thing………guitar is the latest. Lucky thing for me is that I’m working with a great music center, Fort Bend Music Center, at work and they are experts in Houston Guitar Lessons and Houston Guitar Sales & Rental.
I was in band in school but I don’t remember any of my music stores offering Houston band instrument rental. I LOVE the idea of the kids being able to switch instruments….especially mine. It’s much easier to SWITCH instruments rather than SWITCH croaking frogs………..
